I just purchased a 1954 Pontiac "Superior" hearse. It has the original straight 8 cyl engine and manual trans with the "3 on the tree"
The engine turns over but won't start. Its been sitting for many years and when I felt the sparkplug wires a few cracked to the touch. I know an A to Z tune-up is in order as well as maybe replacing the coil. Also on the list is rebuilding the carb. Before I actually start it, I'm going to do a compression test too.
Is there anything else about this motor that might need attention that I missed to get it running?
Also...I'm having a hard time coming up with tuning specs. :P Any "straight 8" experts here?
